Nihat Altiparmak received his B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from Bilkent University in May 2007 and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio in May 2013. He joined the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of Louisville as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in August 2013 and has been a tenured Associate Professor since July 2019. His research interests span the broad area of computer systems, with specific focus on file and storage systems, operating systems, and parallel and distributed systems. His work has appeared in top‑tier international journals including IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, ACM Transactions on Storage, IEEE Transactions on Computers, and ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks. He received the National Science Foundation’s CISE Research Initiation Initiative (CRII) grant in 2017 for research in Automatic Storage System Optimizations, an NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) grant in 2018 to form a High Performance Big Data Analysis Platform, an NSF Campus Cyberinfrastructure (CC*‑Storage) grant in 2023 to form the Cardinal Academic Research Data Storage (CARDS) infrastructure, and an NSF Campus Cyberinfrastructure (CC*‑Compute) grant in 2024 to form the Louisville Academic Research Compute Cluster (LARCC) infrastructure. He also received a Best Research Paper Runner‑Up Award at the CloudCom 2019 conference. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and the founding director of the Computer Systems Laboratory at the University of Louisville.
